Yesterday, we hit a milestone at Productlogz—our first yearly subscription sale. 🥳
Even though our software isn’t perfect yet and there’s still a lot of work to be done to bring it up to market standards, someone saw enough value in what we’ve built to commit their money. That’s a huge win for us.
This milestone reminded me of a principle I’ve come to live by: Done is better than perfect. As a product developer, I’ve been guilty of getting caught up in making sure everything is just right before putting it out into the world. We’ve all been there—endlessly tweaking, refining, and stressing over every little detail, only to end up delaying the launch or even worse, never launching at all.
Perfection is a moving target 🤔
The thing is, perfection is a moving target. There’s always going to be something more you can improve, but that shouldn’t stop you from moving forward. The key is to focus on completing tasks and pushing out your work, even if it’s not flawless. Each step you take, each task you complete, moves you closer to your goals. And in the process, you learn and get better.
When we launched Productlogz, it wasn’t perfect. We knew there were features we wanted to add and improvements we needed to make. But we launched anyway. Why? Because getting the product out there was more important than obsessing over every detail. And guess what? That decision allowed us to learn from real users and make our product better over time.
Yesterday’s subscription sale is proof that people value what we’re doing, even in its imperfect state. It’s a reminder that doing the work and getting it out there is what truly counts. Perfection can wait—progress can’t. So, if you’re sitting on an idea, a project, or a task because it’s not “perfect” yet, just start. Done is better than perfect.
